For example, state insurance regulations in Utah require more auto liability coverage for bodily injuries than Texas regulations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Fortunately, most insurance companies across the U.S. and Canada have reciprocity agreements with each other. So unless you purchased special coverage, your insurance probably won\u2019t cover accidents you are involved in while driving in Mexico.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you operate a motor vehicle in Texas and will be driving in Mexico, you should obtain separate auto insurance. Texas requires more coverage than many other states.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Transportation Code <a href=\"http:\/\/www.statutes.legis.state.tx.us\/Docs\/TN\/htm\/TN.601.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">section 601.072<\/a> of the Texas Motor Vehicle Safety Responsibility Act requires all owners and operators of motor vehicles in Texas to carry, as a minimum:<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-9d6595d7 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<ul class=\"check-list wp-block-list\"><li>$30,000 dollars for bodily injury to or death of one person in one accident<\/li><\/ul>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<ul class=\"check-list wp-block-list\"><li>$60,000 dollars for bodily injury to or death of two or more persons in one accident<\/li><\/ul>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<ul class=\"check-list wp-block-list\"><li>$25,000 dollars for damage to or destruction of property of others in one accident<\/li><\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Under insurance company reciprocity agreements, most out-of-state auto insurers will raise their rate of coverage if one of their insured drivers is involved in an auto accident in Texas.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But these minimums may not be enough to pay for another driver\u2019s vehicle damage and bodily injury. That\u2019s why the Texas Department of Insurance advises drivers to obtain more insurance than the minimum. That\u2019s true for out-of-state drivers in Texas as well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And even if you obtain extra auto liability insurance coverage, it will not pay to repair or replace your car or to treat your injuries. This includes other types of auto insurance coverage to help pay your additional expenses:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"check-list wp-block-list\"><li>Personal Injury Protection (PIP)<\/li><li>Uninsured or Underinsured Motorist Coverage<\/li><li>Medical Payments Insurance<\/li><li>Collision Insurance (to repair your vehicle)<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Texas is one of the <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.justinian.com\/how-were-you-injured\/car-accidents\/\"><strong>most dangerous states to drive<\/strong><\/a><strong>. If the accident happens in Texas, Texas law is the law that is followed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tell your insurer and get the out-of-state-driver\u2019s insurer information. You\u2019ll file the claim against the out-of-state-driver\u2019s insurer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sometimes, the out-of-state-driver will try to \u201cskip out\u201d on paying up. When this happens, the next step is taking legal action.
