For many pregnant mothers, Tylenol\u00ae is a preferred, readily available medication that seems to provide a convenient, risk-free solution to common aches and pains.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, a growing body of evidence suggests that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.justinian.com\/personal-injury-blog\/tylenol-and-pregnancy-lawsuit\/\">Tylenol\u00ae may not be as safe as its manufacturer and retailers claim<\/a>. In the past several years, federally-funded researchers have uncovered <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nih.gov\/news-events\/news-releases\/nih-funded-study-suggests-acetaminophen-exposure-pregnancy-linked-higher-risk-adhd-autism\">disturbing links between acetaminophen-based medications like Tylenol\u00ae and a wide range of serious neurodevelopmental disorders<\/a>, including autism and ADHD.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-how-acetaminophen-based-painkillers-became-an-underrated-developmental-danger\">How Acetaminophen-based Painkillers Became an Underrated Developmental Danger<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Acetaminophen, sometimes called paracetamol, is a chemical compound that can be used to manage fevers and relieve pain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When acetaminophen was first synthesized in the late 19<sup>th<\/sup> century, scientists believed that it had limited use as a commercial painkiller: laboratory tests and trials showed that, while acetaminophen could effectively relieve pain-related symptoms, its routine side-effects included <a href=\"https:\/\/books.google.co.in\/books?id=jglFsz5EJR8C&amp;pg=PA439&amp;redir_esc=y#v=onepage&amp;q&amp;f=false\">headache, nausea, and even liver disease<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Nevertheless, interest in paracetamol rebounded in the 1900s, and, by 1955, it was being sold over-the-counter in pharmacies across the United States.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Today, most Americans are more than aware that acetaminophen can sometimes cause discomfort. Schultz proposed that acetaminophen could play a role in the emergence of autism spectrum disorders, the National Institutes for Health reported its own findings: when federally-funded researchers analyzed data from the <a href=\"https:\/\/clinicaltrials.gov\/ct2\/show\/NCT03228875\">Boston Birth Cohort<\/a>, comprising more than 24,000 mother-child participants, they found that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nih.gov\/news-events\/news-releases\/nih-funded-study-suggests-acetaminophen-exposure-pregnancy-linked-higher-risk-adhd-autism\">children who had been exposed to paracetamol in the womb were much more likely to develop autism spectrum disorders and ADHD<\/a> than children with little to no exposure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" conditions like <a href=\"https:\/\/www.justinian.com\/legal-resources\/tylenol-acetaminophen-autism-adhd\/\">autism and ADHD<\/a> have no known complete medical cure, neurodevelopmental disorders exact an excruciating economic toll, totaling billions of dollars in medical expenses and lost opportunity annually.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On the individual level, the expected treatment costs of neurodevelopmental disorders range from <a href=\"https:\/\/adhd-institute.com\/social-and-economic-costs-of-adhd\/\">$15,000 per year for ADHD<\/a> up to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autismspeaks.org\/autism-statistics-asd#:~:text=On%20average%2C%20autism%20costs%20an,the%20occurrence%20of%20intellectual%20disability.\">$60,000 per year for autism spectrum
